Well Pump Repair in Northeast Georgia
A private well has five or six parts that can stop the water, and only one of them is the pump. We find the part that actually failed and fix that, before anyone talks about pulling equipment out of the ground.

How we approach a repair
Most Pump Problems Are Not Actually the Pump
Wells across Northeast Georgia are drilled into fractured granite and gneiss, and the pump usually hangs a few hundred feet down a narrow steel casing. Getting it out takes a rig, a crew and most of a day. That is exactly why a phone quote for a new pump is so tempting for some companies, and so expensive for the homeowner.
In practice, the parts that fail most often are the ones you can reach without lifting anything: the pressure switch, the control box, the tank and the wiring at the wellhead. We work through them in order, take readings at each step, and only reach for the pump when the numbers point there.
STEP ONE
Power In, Power Out
Voltage at the breaker, at the switch and at the control box. A loose lug or a scorched terminal explains a surprising number of dead wells.
STEP TWO
Tank, Switch and Gauge
Air charge in the tank, cut-in and cut-off settings, and whether the gauge is even telling the truth. Faulty gauges send plenty of people down the wrong road.
STEP THREE
Reading the Pump From Above
Amp draw and a resistance test on the down-hole wire show the condition of the motor and cable while they are still in the ground.

Straight advice
When Repairing the Old Part Is the Wrong Call
We lean toward repair, but not blindly. Four situations where patching things up again is money you will not get back.
The Same Fault Has Come Back Twice
A control box that keeps burning out is usually reacting to a motor that is drawing too much current. Replacing the box a third time treats the symptom, not the cause.
The House Has Outgrown the System
An extra bathroom, an irrigation zone or a second household on the same well can leave a small pump running flat out. Repairing it keeps an undersized system limping along.
Old Galvanized Pipe Down the Well
Steel drop pipe from decades ago rusts from the inside and weakens at every thread. If the pump has to come up anyway, that pipe should not go back down.
Lightning Damage With No Protection Fitted
Summer storms in the foothills take out well equipment every year. Fixing the damage without adding a surge arrester at the switch leaves the system exposed to the next one.

Repair questions
Well Pump Repair Questions
Is a Ten-Year-Old Well Pump Worth Repairing?
Often, yes, as long as the fault is above ground. A pump of that age may have plenty of life left, and a new switch or capacitor costs a fraction of a pull. The calculation changes when the motor itself is failing. At that point you are paying to lift the pump either way, and putting a worn motor back down rarely makes sense. Amp and resistance readings tell us which situation you are in.
Can You Tell What Is Wrong Without Pulling the Pump?
In most cases. Voltage, amp draw and a resistance test on the cable from the surface reveal whether the motor is healthy, shorted or open, and whether the wire between it and the house is intact. Pulling is for confirming a diagnosis or carrying out the fix, not for finding out what happened.
Why Did My Pump Stop Right After a Thunderstorm?
A nearby strike can travel through the power lines or the ground and damage the switch, the control box or the motor windings. Sometimes only a cheap part is lost, sometimes the motor goes with it. We test before assuming the worst, and we recommend a surge arrester so the next storm does less harm.
Do You Repair Systems Another Company Installed?
Yes. Most wells we see were drilled and fitted by someone else, sometimes decades ago. We work on all the common submersible and jet pump brands, and if a part is no longer made we will tell you what the modern equivalent is and whether it fits your setup.
